Camden High School
Lugoff-Elgin High School
It was a very blustery day, and so no one was enjoying this meeting. Even with Camden winning on all courts, they took refuge in their vehicles to get out of the weather while waiting for all the matches to be completed.
Singles #1: Spencer Hinton vs. Wilson Pope (2-6)(0-6) — Spencer started off quite strong in this match, but Wilson was able to knock him off of his game. Spencer found it difficult to get back into his game, and found it even more difficult to find a weakness in WIlson’s game.
Singles #2: Matthew Mills vs. KP Cassidy (2-6)(1-6) — Matthew was playing quite well against his Camden opponent. His game was not suffering against the wind like most of the other players. Unfortunately KP was able to play the wind to his advantage more than Matthew did. The match was closer than the score indicates, but still was a loss for Lugoff.
Singles #3: Tyler Matthews vs. Robert Lackey (0-6)(3-6) — Tyler’s game had a lot of trouble with the wind, whereas Robert’s game seemed very unaffected by it. Tyler found himself more in a defensive stance versus Robert’s attacking style. Robert took the game mostly from the net.
Singles #4: Ryan Hill vs. Mac Lindsey (1-6)(1-6) — The player having the most trouble with the wind was Ryan. Too many attempted lobs vs. Camden’s power game did not work well for Lugoff on this court.
Singles #5: Forfeit by Lugoff — Injury and Family Emergency
#2 Doubles: Coby Morrison / Trey Stephens vs. Will Farmer / Ben Biatta (6-7… 5)(4-6) — Lugoff had the lead in both sets, but was unable to finish out either sets with wins. Both sides struggled to stay consistent, but Camden managed their errors at the right time better than Lugoff.
The wind was horrible, but it was a legitimate win for Camden. They played a smart game.
