Meet Recap

It was not always pretty, but we won the Cane Bay Duals against a very good group of teams!! We went 5-0 on the day, improving to a very solid 9-1 on the season against a strong schedule! Here are the match scores yesterday. LE 71 Stall 12
LE 38 Summerville 28
LE 46 Beaufort 21
LE 40 Stratford 33
LE 33 Cane Bay 30

I apologize to some of our wrestlers for not getting you guys a match. I wanted to wrestle Tanner, Noah, Leonard, and Matthew, but when they had forfeits at 106, 113, and 145, it made that very difficult.

Individually, I was the most proud of how we wrestled with a team concept, which is crucial!! Klay Crossway was awesome, going 5-0 on the day!! Jay Wilson wrestled tough against a returning State Qualifier and continues to get better. Brice Carron battled a two-time State Placer until his knee was injured in the match. Jacob Paulson did a huge “man up” job, beating 3 tough opponents in a row, including a State Runner Up from last season. Hunter was also clutch, beating a solid Cane Bay kid in crunch time. Devin Wilson was our closer. He beat two Returning State Qualifiers from Stratford and Cane Bay to seal those matches for us!

Caleb McDonald and Justice Valdez also stepped up and picked up wins for us. Eli took a couple of lumps, but bounced back in the clutch! He started the Cane Bay match with a pin over a Returning State Qualifier to give us a 6-0 lead out of the gate! Jacob Carron was really good, picking up 3 pins and a tech fall on the day in clutch situations against both Summerville and Stratford! Jay Murray was outstanding!! He went 3-1 on the day, with his only loss of the day to a Returning 5A State Qualifier in a close match. In the Championship Match, Jay beat a Retuning State Qualifier and Southern Slam Placer from Cane Bay that was a difference maker!
These next four young men, Omarion (Big O), McCoy, Dan, and Rhyse, were awesome! They understood and embraced team wrestling!! I’m extremely proud of each of them!! Last but not least, Big Drake made the weight and went 4-1 on the day, winning some huge matches (no pun intended)! The future looks bright for the Demons at heavyweight!

I know this was a long post, but our guys deserved it!!! Stay humble, let’s have a Demon Strong practice on Monday, get on weight, and get ready to battle 2 really good teams at home on Tuesday, which includes River Bluff, the Defending 5A State Champs!!
