Meet Recap

This was a much needed region win for the Lugoff team, and a nice way to come back from a week off for Spring Break.

#1 Singles: Hunter Horton vs. Jefferson Fullmore: Hunter was on his game. After many aces and short rallies, Hunter had the victory (6-0)(6-0).

#2 Singles: Spencer Hinton vs. Roy Balacano: Both sets started off pretty close, but Spencer eventually found his stride and finished it (6-2)(6-1).

#3 Singles: Matthew Mills vs. Marc Bumanglag: Matthew is back after sitting out with the flu. He played a solid first set taking it (6-2). Errors crept into his game in the second set which eventually went to a tie break. Matthew took the tie break 7-3.

#4 Singles: Tyler Matthews vs. James Agens: Just like most of his matches, Tyler played a lot of long rallies. He won enough of the important points to take this one (6-2)(6-0).

#5 Singles: Evan Freier vs. Colby Myers: Evan recently made the move from doubles to the number 5 singles position, and it has been a good fit for him. The second set was a little tighter than the first one, but he managed to win his match (6-0)(6-3).

#2 Doubles: Harrison Garcia / Ryan Hill vs. Mark Todd / Marcus Branch: This was the first team up by Harrison and Ryan, and it turned out to be a good one. They took their match (6-0)(6-2).

Again it was a great first match after have a week off for Spring Break. It was a good warm up match for a tough week of tennis as Lugoff will travel to Chapin on Wednesday and host Spring Valley on Thursday.

Meet Recap

Dutch Fork was as tough as we have ever seen them. They were heavy hitters from top to bottom. Credit to the Lugoff boys though, they did not back down from the challenge.

#1 Singles: Hunter Horton vs. Robert Kirtley: Hunter was once again able to roll through another challenger. Robert was able to get a couple of games off of Hunter, but Hunter eventually took the match (6-1)(6-1).

#2 Singles: Spencer Hinton vs. Evan Major: Spencer played a very steady match against Evan. Evan was able to turn it up a notch when needed, and so Dutch Fork took this one (0-6)(1-6).

#3 Singles: Tyler Matthews vs. Andrew Lovelace: There were many long rallies played between these two on court 3. Tyler played a good game, and managed to take a few games. He was unable to secure a victory for LE though as he went down (1-6)(2-6).

#4 Singles: Harrison Garcia vs. Drew Gardiner… #5 Singles: Evan Freier vs. Saad Iftikhar: Both of these matches went about the same for the LE players. LE played hard, but Dutch Fork took both of these matches (0-6)(0-6).

#2 Doubles: Jaydon Keys / Ryan Hill vs. Jack Greenhalgh / Drake George: With one of the Lugoff players out of commission with the flu, Jaydon Keys stepped in and partnered with Ryan Hill. The heavy hitting from Dutch Fork pushed the new teammates back from the net and enabled them to take this match (1-6)(0-6).

Obviously LE would have loved the win, but for now their coach was happy to see them not back down from such a strong team.

Meet Recap

The Lugoff tennis team had a tight one at Westwood High School, but managed to come out with their first region match win for the season.

#1 singles: Hunter Horton vs. Julian Narboni: It was business as usual for Hunter as Julian was unable to get a game off Lugoff’s top player. Hunter had the familiar score of (6-0)(6-0).

#2 singles: Spencer Hinton vs. Kaleb Phelps: This was the game to watch. It was the last game to finish, and it was a necessary win for Lugoff to force a tie-break match. Spencer took the first set (6-4). He was in control for a while in the second set, but smart play by the Westwood player made the score (4-6) and forced a third set. Spencer got off to an early lead and never let it go. He took the third set (10-7).

#3 singles: Tyler Matthews vs. Steven Massey: This looked like it was going to be the long match of the night. Both players had the ability to keep the ball in play. Tyler kept it close for a while in the first set. Eventually Steven was able to start hitting the right shots and so Tyler fell (3-6)(0-6).

#4 singles: Harrison Garcia vs. Ryan Hiller: Harrison found himself overpowered by his Westwood opponent. Harrison went down quickly (2-6)(1-6).

#5 singles: Evan Freier vs. Jalen Ryan: Evan was recently moved from playing doubles to the singles court. He is moving and hitting very well, and tonight’s game was one of the best we have seen out of him. He took the match (6-0)(6-2).

#2 doubles: Matthew Mills / Ryan Hill vs. Terrell Foster / Oliver Ellis: Even though there were several really well played points by the Lugoff team, too often they found themselves slightly out of sync. They went down (2-6)(3-6).

#1 doubles: Hunter Horton / Spencer Hinton vs. Kaleb Phelps / Steven Massey: The overall results came down to this match. Although the Westwood team played very well, they were outmatched by the Lugoff doubles team. Lugoff took this one (6-0)(6-0).

Lugoff has now won two in a row. The players are starting to play more like a team. We still have a few things to work out to make us serious contenders for a playoff bound team.
